Golden Retriever Care in Indian Weather

Goldens do reasonably well in India with attention to coat and heat, but the coat needs real work in humidity.

Coat and skin

A dense water-repellent coat holds moisture against the skin, which causes hot spots — rapidly spreading moist infections — particularly in monsoon. Dry thoroughly after every bath and swim, and brush to the skin several times a week.

Heat

Limit midday activity. Goldens, like Labradors, will keep working past the point of safety.

Health watch

Higher rates of certain cancers than most breeds, plus hip and elbow dysplasia and ear infections. Regular checks matter.

Temperament

Sociable and soft; they cope badly with harsh handling and with long periods alone.
