Surgery at the clinic

  • Spay and neuter (sterilisation) for dogs and cats
  • Emergency surgery during clinic hours, with admission
  • Advanced surgery: fracture repair, eye surgery and tumour removal

Before surgery

  • A physical examination, and blood tests in the in-house lab when the vet advises them
  • Fasting instructions from the vet. Follow the exact timing you are given
  • Tell the vet about any medicines, past illness, or reactions to anaesthesia

Spay and neuter

Sterilisation prevents unwanted litters and lowers the risk of some reproductive illnesses. The vet advises the right age and timing for your dog or cat, and for females whether to operate before, between or after a heat.

After surgery

  • Keep your pet quiet, and the wound clean and dry. Use the collar the vet gives so your pet cannot lick the stitches.
  • Give medicines exactly as prescribed.
  • Check the wound every day. Call the clinic if you see swelling, discharge or bleeding, or if your pet stops eating or seems very dull.
  • Stitches are usually checked or removed after about 10 to 14 days. The vet will tell you the date.

How it works

  1. 1Examination, and a talk about the procedure, the risks and the cost
