Health

Because it was never bred for exaggerated features or from a narrow gene pool, the Indie has remarkably few inherited disorders. No brachycephalic airway problems, low hip dysplasia rates, and a typical lifespan of 13–16 years.

Climate

A short single coat, efficient cooling and a lean build — it is built for exactly the conditions most imported breeds struggle with.

Temperament

Intelligent, alert and naturally wary of strangers, which makes them good watchdogs but means early socialisation matters. They are typically independent rather than needy, and highly trainable with reward-based methods.

What to expect when adopting

An adult street dog may need weeks to decompress. Expect resource guarding around food initially — it is learned, and it fades with reliable feeding. Sterilise, vaccinate and deworm early.
