Making indoors enough
Cats need vertical space more than floor space — shelves, a tall tree, a window perch. Two short play sessions a day with a wand toy, ending in a 'catch', satisfies the hunting sequence.
Feeding as enrichment
Puzzle feeders and scattering dry food turn eating into foraging, which reduces boredom and overeating.
A middle path
A meshed balcony or a secure enclosure gives outdoor stimulation without the risks. Harness training works for some cats if introduced young and slowly.
