Cat vaccination gets far less attention than dog vaccination in India, and feline panleukopenia is both common and deadly.
The core schedule
First tricat (panleukopenia, calicivirus, herpesvirus) at 8–9 weeks, second at 12 weeks, and rabies at around 12–16 weeks. Boosters at a year, then as advised.
Panleukopenia is the parvo of cats
Highly contagious, environmentally persistent, and frequently fatal in unvaccinated kittens. It is the main reason not to delay.
Test rescues first
Test for FIV and FeLV before introducing a rescued kitten to resident cats, and before vaccinating where advised.
Indoor cats still need it
Panleukopenia can be carried in on shoes, and rabies vaccination is a legal and safety matter regardless of lifestyle.
