What it means practically

Snoring, snorting and noisy breathing are signs of obstruction, not personality. Panting is far less effective at cooling, which makes Indian summers genuinely dangerous.

Daily management

Harness rather than collar. Walk only in the cool hours. Keep strictly lean — even mild excess weight worsens the airway. Air conditioning or a fan in summer is not indulgence.

Other issues

Eye ulcers from prominent eyes, skin fold infections needing daily cleaning and drying, and dental crowding.

Surgery can help

Widening nostrils and shortening the soft palate meaningfully improves breathing in many dogs. Done early it prevents secondary damage.
