Neither is universally better. The right answer depends on your pet's hydration, your budget and your climate.
Hydration
Cats evolved from desert animals and drink poorly; wet food at roughly 78% moisture is a genuine advantage for cats prone to urinary problems. Dogs generally drink enough on their own.
Cost and storage
Dry food costs far less per calorie and keeps well. In Indian summers an opened wet pouch left out spoils within hours — refrigerate leftovers and discard anything left more than a day.
The dental myth
Kibble does not clean teeth meaningfully. Most kibble shatters rather than scraping. Brushing does the work; food does not.
A practical middle
Many owners do well feeding dry as the base with a spoon of wet as a topper — better palatability and some added moisture, without the full cost.
