Active Composition & Mechanism of Action

• Active Ingredient: Cefpodoxime Proxetil IP equivalent to Cefpodoxime 100 mg per tablet.

• Drug Class: Third-Generation Cephalosporin (Beta-Lactam Antibiotic).

• Mode of Action: Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug de-esterified in the body into active Cefpodoxime. It binds to transpeptidases (penicillin-binding proteins) involved in bacterial peptidoglycan cell wall cross-linking. This weakens structural cell wall integrity, leading to osmotic instability, bacterial lysis, and cell death.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

Administer strictly according to your veterinarian's written prescription.

• Recommended Dosage: Orally at 5 mg to 10 mg per kg body weight once daily (every 24 hours).

• Duration:

  • Standard soft-tissue/wound courses typically run for 5 to 7 days.

  • Treatment should generally continue for 2 to 3 days beyond the cessation of visible clinical symptoms.

  • Deep pyodermas may require longer courses as assessed by your veterinarian.

• Clinical Monitoring: If no clinical improvement is observed within 3 to 4 days of initiating therapy, consult your veterinarian to re-evaluate the diagnosis or perform culture/sensitivity testing.

• Food Compatibility: Can be given with or without food. Administering alongside a meal can improve absorption and reduce the likelihood of mild gastrointestinal upset.
