Active Composition & Mode of Action

• Active Ingredient: Cefpodoxime Proxetil IP equivalent to Cefpodoxime 200 mg per tablet.

• Drug Class: Third-Generation Cephalosporin (Beta-Lactam Antibiotic).

• Mechanism: Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral prodrug that rapidly hydrolyzes in the gastrointestinal mucosa into active Cefpodoxime. It prevents bacterial cell wall formation by inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis via transpeptidase binding, resulting in bacterial cell wall lysis and rapid death.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

• Standard Dosage: 5 mg to 10 mg per kg body weight administered orally once daily (every 24 hours).

• Duration of Therapy:

  • Typical course ranges between 5 to 7 days, or continued for 2 to 3 days beyond the complete resolution of clinical signs.

  • Chronic or deep pyodermas may require an extended course as monitored by your vet.

• Clinical Monitoring: If no noticeable improvement is observed within 3 to 4 days, consult your veterinarian to re-evaluate the diagnosis or perform an antimicrobial sensitivity test.

• Administration Tip: Can be given with or without food. Administering with a small meal can enhance oral absorption and reduce potential stomach sensitivity.
