Active Formulation & Mode of Action

• Active Ingredient: Firocoxib 57 mg per chewable tablet.

• Pharmacological Class: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) – Coxib / Highly Selective COX-2 Inhibitor.

• Mode of Action: Firocoxib works by selectively inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme, which is induced by inflammatory stimuli to produce prostaglandins responsible for pain, edema, and fever. Because it has minimal inhibitory action on COX-1 at therapeutic levels, it reduces the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and renal toxicity compared to traditional NSAIDs.

Clinical Indications

• Relief of pain and inflammation associated with canine osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disorders.

• Control of post-operative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue, dental, and orthopedic surgery.

• Relief from acute musculoskeletal trauma, sprains, and joint inflammation.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

Administer strictly according to your veterinarian’s prescription and weight chart.

• Standard Canine Dose: 5.0 mg per kg body weight once daily (every 24 hours).

• Weight-Based Dosing Chart (57 mg Tablet):

  • 3 kg to 5.5 kg: 1/4 tablet (14.25 mg) once daily.

  • 5.6 kg to 11 kg: 1/2 tablet (28.5 mg) once daily.

  • 11.1 kg to 16.5 kg: 3/4 tablet (42.75 mg) once daily.

  • 16.6 kg to 22.5 kg: 1 full tablet (57 mg) once daily.

    (For dogs heavier than 22.5 kg, use Coxkind 227mg or combine as advised by your vet).

• How to Give: Can be fed directly by hand as a treat or mixed into moist food. Administering with or after a meal is recommended to minimize gastric sensitivity.

Safety Precautions & Contraindications

• Canine Use Only: Do NOT administer to cats. Firocoxib metabolism differs drastically in felines and can lead to acute renal/hepatic failure.

• Age & Weight Limits: Do not use in dogs under 10 weeks of age or weighing under 3 kg.

• Organ Function Monitoring: Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing renal, hepatic, or cardiovascular impairments. Baseline and periodic blood panels (BUN, creatinine, ALT) are strongly recommended for long-term therapy.

• Drug Interactions: Never use concurrently with corticosteroids (e.g., Prednisolone, Dexamethasone) or other NSAIDs (e.g., Meloxicam, Carprofen), as this significantly increases the risk of severe GI ulceration. Allow a 3 to 5 day wash-out period when switching medications.

• Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children and household pets.
