Active Composition & Biological Mechanism of Action

• Active Ingredient: Pimobendan 5 mg per tablet.

• Pharmacological Class: Inodilator (Calcium sensitizer and Phosphodiesterase III / PDE3 inhibitor).

• Mechanism of Action:

  1. Calcium Sensitization: Pimobendan binds to cardiac troponin C, increasing the sensitivity of contractile myofilaments to intracellular calcium. This increases contractility without raising intracellular calcium levels or triggering arrhythmias.

  2. PDE3 Inhibition: By inhibiting phosphodiesterase III enzymes in vascular smooth muscles, it increases cyclic AMP (cAMP), causing smooth muscle relaxation, arterial vasodilation (reducing afterload), and venous vasodilation (reducing preload).

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

Administer strictly according to your veterinarian's prescription and weight-based calculation.

• Standard Therapeutic Dose: Typically 0.25 mg to 0.5 mg of Pimobendan per kg body weight daily, divided into two equal doses given 12 hours apart (recommended target: 0.25 mg/kg every 12 hours).

• Important Administration Rule: Pimoben Solo must be administered on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before feeding. Food intake significantly reduces the bioavailability and absorption of oral pimobendan.

• Missed Dose Protocol: If a dose is missed, administer it as soon as remembered on an empty stomach. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume the normal routine. Do not double up tablets.

Contraindications & Safety Precautions

• Species Restriction: Exclusively for dogs.

• Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM): Contraindicated in cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or clinical conditions where an increase in cardiac output is not anatomically possible (e.g., aortic or pulmonic stenosis).

• Severe Hepatic Impairment: Pimobendan is extensively metabolized in the liver; use with caution in dogs with compromised liver function.
