Clinical Indications

• Prevention and treatment of acute vomiting associated with gastritis, pancreatitis, and systemic toxicities.

• Prevention of vomiting and nausea induced by chemotherapy protocols (e.g., Doxorubicin, Cisplatin).

• Prevention of motion sickness and car sickness during vehicular travel.

• Adjunctive management of visceral abdominal discomfort and nausea in acute canine gastroenteritis.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

Administer strictly according to your veterinarian’s prescription and body weight calculation.

• For Acute Vomiting (Treatment & Prevention):

  • Dose: 2 mg / kg body weight orally once daily (every 24 hours).

  • Can be given for up to 5 consecutive days.

• For Motion Sickness (Prevention):

  • Dose: 8 mg / kg body weight orally once daily.

  • Timing: Administer at least 2 hours prior to travel.

  • Important Meal Tip: Feed a small, light snack or meal about 1 hour before dosing. Avoid giving on a completely empty stomach to reduce the risk of tablet-induced regurgitation, but do not offer a heavy meal right before travel.

  • Can be administered for up to 2 consecutive days for travel.

Safety Warnings, Precautions & Storage

• Canine Use Only: Formulated for canine patients. Use in cats only under specific off-label veterinary guidance and calibrated feline dosing.

• Underlying Obstruction: Always rule out gastrointestinal mechanical obstructions or foreign body ingestion before administering antiemetics, as stopping emesis without clearing a blockage can mask critical surgical emergencies.

• Age Limits: Do not administer for motion sickness (8 mg/kg) in puppies under 16 weeks of age. Do not administer for acute vomiting (2 mg/kg) in puppies under 8 weeks of age.

• Hepatic Monitoring: Use with caution in dogs with impaired liver function or cardiac conditions, as maropitant is heavily metabolized by the liver.
