Uses / Indications

Enerfoxin may be prescribed by a veterinarian for susceptible bacterial infections including:

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Pyoderma

• Wounds and abscesses with susceptible bacterial infection

• Respiratory tract infections

• Pneumonia and bacterial bronchitis

• Urinary tract infections

• Susceptible gastrointestinal bacterial infections

• Reproductive tract infections

The choice of antibiotic should be based on veterinary assessment and the suspected or confirmed bacterial infection.

How Enrofloxacin Works

Enrofloxacin is a bactericidal fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication and repair.

This interferes with bacterial growth and results in bacterial cell death.

Directions for Use

Administer orally exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian.

Shake the bottle before use and measure the prescribed quantity with a calibrated oral syringe. The solution may be administered directly into the side of the mouth or mixed into a small amount of food that the pet will consume completely.

Reference dosing information from the supplied source:

• Dogs: 5 mg/kg body weight once daily

• Cats: 5 mg/kg body weight once daily; do not exceed this dose

• 10 kg dog = 1 mL once daily

Important Safety Information

• Do not use in growing dogs where contraindicated because fluoroquinolones may affect developing joint cartilage.

In cats, retinal toxicity is an important safety concern, particularly with doses above the recommended maximum. If a cat develops unusually dilated pupils or suspected visual changes, stop administration and contact a veterinarian immediately.

Drug & Food Interactions

Avoid administering Enerfoxin close to:

• Calcium supplements

• Iron supplements

• Zinc supplements

• Multivitamins containing minerals

• Antacids

• Dairy products

• Laxatives

• Sucralfate

These products can interfere with Enrofloxacin absorption. The supplied source recommends separating these products by at least 2 hours.

Missed Dose

If a dose is missed, administer it when remembered unless the next scheduled dose is close. Do not give a double dose.

If multiple doses are missed, contact your veterinarian before restarting treatment.

Course of Treatment
