Clinical Indications

• Pediatric & Canine Dermatology: Puppy pyoderma (impetigo), superficial bacterial folliculitis, juvenile cellulitis secondary infections, and acute moist dermatitis ("hot spots").

• Feline Abscesses & Wound Care: Infected cat-bite lacerations, claw punctures, subcutaneous abscesses, and post-surgical site infections.

• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Acute and recurrent bacterial cystitis and pyelonephritis caused by susceptible E. coli or Proteus spp.

• Respiratory Infections: Secondary bacterial tracheobronchitis (kennel cough complications) and bronchopneumonia.

• Bone & Joint Infections: Adjunctive management of pediatric osteomyelitis and septic arthritis under veterinary culture direction .

Reconstitution & Handling Instructions

1. Loosen Powder: Gently tap the bottle on a flat surface to loosen the dry granules.

2. Add Water: Slowly add boiled and cooled drinking water up to approximately half the volume of the bottle.

3. Shake Well: Secure the cap tightly and shake vigorously until all powder is fully suspended.

4. Top Up to Mark: Add water up to the marked fill line (60 ml mark) on the bottle label and shake thoroughly again.

5. Always Shake Before Dosing: Shake the suspension well before drawing each dose to ensure uniform active drug distribution.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

Administer orally twice daily (every 12 hours) strictly as directed by your veterinarian:

• Standard Therapeutic Dosage Rate: 15 mg to 30 mg Cephalexin per kg body weight every 12 hours (typical dermatology standard is 22–25 mg/kg BID).

• Reconstituted Liquid Ratio (250 mg / 5 ml = 50 mg/ml):

  • Approx. 0.4 ml to 0.5 ml of reconstituted suspension per 1 kg body weight every 12 hours.

• Administration Instructions:

  • Draw the exact dose using a clean oral syringe or calibrated measuring cap.

  • Administer directly into the side of your pet's mouth onto the back of the tongue, or mix into a small spoonful of wet food, gravy, or curd.

  • Administer with Food: Giving cephalexin with or immediately after food reduces the incidence of transient stomach upset or vomiting .

• Course Duration:

  • Superficial Skin Infections / Hot Spots: 14 to 21 consecutive days (continue treatment for 7 days past complete visual clearing of lesions).

  • Urinary Tract Infections: 7 to 14 consecutive days.

  • Never stop the course prematurely, even if visible symptoms clear, to prevent bacterial recurrence and resistance.

Safety Warnings, Precautions & Storage

• Prescription Only: Administer strictly under qualified veterinary direction .

• Contraindications: Do NOT use in animals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactam penicillins .

• Species Restriction: Do NOT administer to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or chinchillas. Beta-lactams wipe out normal cecal flora in hindgut fermenters, causing fatal enterotoxemia.
