Clinical Indications

• Tick-Borne Rickettsial & Hemoparasitic Diseases: Canine Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (Ehrlichia canis), Canine Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (Anaplasma phagocytophilum), Infectious Cyclic Thrombocytopenia (Anaplasma platys), Hemotrophic Mycoplasmosis (Mycoplasma haemocanis, Mycoplasma haemofelis), and Lyme Borreliosis (Borrelia burgdorferi).

• Leptospirosis: Elimination of leptospiral carrier states (Leptospira interrogans) in renal tubular epithelial tissues.

• Respiratory Tract Infections: Atypical bronchopneumonia, chronic rhinitis, tonsillitis, and secondary bacterial infections complicating kennel cough (Bordetella bronchiseptica, Mycoplasma spp.).

• Dermatology & Soft Tissue: Deep pyoderma, interdigital furunculosis, and infected bite abscesses.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

Administer orally strictly as directed by your veterinarian based on confirmed diagnosis and patient weight:

• Standard Therapeutic Dosage Rate: 5 mg to 10 mg Doxycycline per kg body weight once or twice daily (standard tick fever regimen is 10 mg/kg once daily, or 5 mg/kg every 12 hours).

• Weight-Band Dosing Selection:

  • Doxypet 100 mg: Ideal for cats and dogs weighing up to 10–20 kg.

  • Doxypet 200 mg: Ideal for medium-to-large dogs weighing 20–40 kg.

• Course Duration (CRITICAL):

  • Acute & Chronic Canine Ehrlichiosis / Tick Fever: Minimum 28 consecutive days (4 full weeks).

    • Clinical Warning: Even if clinical symptoms (fever, lethargy, bleeding) resolve within 3 to 5 days, never discontinue treatment early. Stopping before 28 days leaves viable intracellular organisms in splenic and bone marrow niches, causing chronic subclinical carrier states, irreversible pancytopenia, and fatal relapse months later.

  • Respiratory / Soft Tissue Infections: 7 to 14 consecutive days.

Essential Administration Instructions & Safety Rules

1. Always Give with Food: Administer the tablet with a regular meal (e.g., meat, kibble, or rice) to avoid nausea, gastric irritation, and vomiting.

2. THE FELINE & CANINE ESOPHAGEAL RULE: Never administer a "dry" tablet.

   • When giving directly by mouth, always follow immediately with 3 to 5 ml of water via syringe or a wet food treat.

   • Clinical Rationale: If a dry doxycycline tablet lodges in the esophagus, it can cause severe chemical contact esophagitis, ulceration, and life-threatening esophageal strictures (especially in cats).

3. AVOID CALCIUM & MINERAL CHELATION:

   • Do NOT administer with milk, curd, cheese, paneer, or mineral supplements (calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, or antacids).
