Active Ingredients & Dual-Action Mechanism

• Benazepril Hydrochloride (ACE Inhibitor): Rapidly converted into its active metabolite, benazeprilat. It blocks the conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II, leading to systemic vasodilation (both arterial and venous), lower blood pressure, and decreased afterload on the struggling heart.

• Spironolactone (Potassium-Sparing Diuretic & Aldosterone Antagonist): Competitively blocks aldosterone receptors in the kidneys and cardiovascular tissue. It promotes natriuresis (sodium excretion) and diuresis without depleting serum potassium, while blunting the toxic, fibrotic effects of chronic aldosterone surge on cardiac muscle.

Dosage & Administration Guidelines

• Standard Clinical Target Dose: Typically dosed at 0.25 mg/kg of Benazepril and 2.0 mg/kg of Spironolactone once daily.

• Administration: Can be given directly by mouth as a flavoured treat or mixed into a small portion of wet or dry food.

• Consistency: Administer once daily at the same time every day to maintain steady therapeutic serum levels.

• Monitoring Protocol: Baseline renal function tests (Serum Creatinine, BUN) and serum potassium levels should be evaluated prior to starting and monitored periodically (at 2–4 weeks after initiation, then every 3–6 months).

• Missed Dose: Give the missed dose as soon as remembered on the same day. Do not administer a double dose to make up for a missed tablet.

Contraindications & Safety Warnings

• Hypotension & Hypovolemia: Do not use in dogs suffering from acute hypotension, hypovolemia, or acute renal failure.
