• Mechanism:

  • Chelation: EDTA removes metal ions essential for bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) cross-linking, causing holes to form in the bacterial outer membrane.

  • Buffering: Tris provides stable alkaline buffering, preventing the inactivation of topical antibiotics by acidic purulent discharge.

Target Clinical Indications

• Pre-treatment ear flushing before administering medicated antibiotic, antifungal, or corticosteroid ear drops.

• Acute and chronic otitis externa associated with Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, or Malassezia infections.

• Routine hygienic ear cleansing to remove excessive wax buildup, dirt, and foul odors in floppy-eared breeds (e.g., Cocker Spaniels, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Bassets).

• Preventive flushing after swimming or baths to dry and clean the canal.

Step-by-Step Directions for Use

1. Instill the Flush: Shake bottle well. Gently lift the ear flap (pinna) and instill 10 to 15 drops directly into the external ear canal.

2. Massage the Ear Base: Gently massage the base of the ear canal between your thumb and index finger for 60 to 90 seconds until a characteristic "squishing" sound is heard. This action breaks up deep-seated wax plugs.

3. Allow Head Shaking: Step back and allow your pet to shake its head naturally, which helps dislodge loosened cerumen and debris from deep within the canal.

4. Wipe Clean: Use clean cotton balls or gauze pads to wipe away dislodged debris and excess fluid from the outer ear and pinna. Never insert cotton buds (Q-tips) deep into the ear canal.

5. If Applying Medicated Ear Drops: Wait approximately 15 to 30 minutes after flushing with Clearify before applying prescribed medicated antibiotic/antifungal drops, allowing the Tris-EDTA to sensitize the pathogens.
